Syrrun Adnan, associate, discusses his career story and his goals for Russell Bolton Consulting.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a graduate quantity surveyor at an architectural practice where they provided quantity surveying services to a local authority client. It was a good grounding as far as learnings are concerned as the role involved producing a lot of bills of quantities.
What inspired you to work in the real estate sector?
I started with a degree in electrical engineering but soon discovered that it wasn’t for me. Both my parents work in the construction industry as designers so naturally they recommended quantity surveying as a pathway given the background in maths.
What has been your career highlight?
It’s difficult to single out a particular highlight as I was fortunate enough to work on many projects for a lot of different clients, all of which are different in nature with different challenges and therefore it can be said that every successful project is something that I am proud of every time I drive past.
What real estate project do you wish you had worked on?
The buildings during the Victorian period always fascinated me but the one I wish I had worked on is the Natural History Museum.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My biggest influence has always been my family. Both my parents have taught me hard work and are very forgiving of my mistakes along the way as it is all part of the learning process and growing up. They have instilled my family the importance of being one unit despite the difference in views and personalities.
