RBC supports Cityheart as Cheers & Smith gets go-ahead at £120m Stopford Park

November 2025

The Russell Bolton Consulting (RBC) team were pleased to see Cityheart achieve planning permission for its Cheers & Smith building; a central element of its £120million GDV Stopford Park neighbourhood in Stockport.

The permission will see the Grade two listed former Metropolitan Girls School become a flexible workspace for freelancers and start-ups, with the building sitting alongside three residential blocks comprising 442 new homes.

RBC has advised Cityheart across the entirety of the Stopford Park development, delivering Project Management and Cost Management across the full site. The team is also Employers Agent and Cost Manager for the Bosdon and Torkington buildings and provided Early Development Management for the scheme.

Riyaaz Patel, Associate at Russell Bolton Consulting, said: “It’s great to see Cityheart secure the go-ahead for Cheers & Smith. The project presented some logistical challenges due to the site’s single access point, and its location between two live schemes, but we worked closely with both contractors to establish a safe working zone for the Cheers & Smith project to progress.

“The building’s Grade II listed status also meant we needed to work closely with listed building control officers to get the green light for the extensive remedial works to take place. It’s a really exciting project and we look forward to working alongside Cityheart and the wider project team as work begins on site.”

OAK Construction Projects will deliver designs by Project 3 Architects, while Sheila Bird Studio will be charged with the interior design of the Cheers & Smith workspace. The developer expects to open its doors within the next 12 months.

Layer studio led on landscaping and public realm design, while Renaissance, Crookes Walker Consulting and BB7 Fire Engineering assisted Cityheart with its application to Stockport Council.
